Competitions: Meeting Summary and Results

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.”  Albert Einstein.

Every spring and autumn, Toastmasters clubs hold competitions.  In spring, the International speech and evaluation contests. In autumn, the Humorous speech and Impromptu speech contests.

Competition is the fastest route to change, improvement and growth.

The Business Club is serious and effective.  We provide our members this chance for growth, in a friendly and supportive environment.

As a measure of our members’ engagement, 66% of our membership was present at this competition meeting; 20% of our members took part in one competition or both; and every member present but not competiting took on organisational rolls: timers Isabelle & Petros; counter Geoffrey, Isabelle, Petros; sergeant at arms Chu Ping; judges Ben, Barbara, Cezar, Jörg, Karla, Martin; contest chairs Ivan A. & Ben.  Evaluation contest target speech was given by Martin, titled “Adam’s Rib”.

Our biggest praise goes to the person who made the entire event happen, our Contest Organising Chair, Asli.  Well done Asli on giving us a top quality, furnace-hot competition event.

While our praise and thanks go to those who made the event possible, the limelight is decidedly reserved for our winners.

International speech contest.  4 competitors, top 2 places announced.

  1. Chistoph – “Effective Altruism”.
  2. Mirja – “Be our Guest”.

Evaluation contest.  6 competitors, top 3 places announced.

  2. Karla
  3. Barbara

Other participating contestants were Andrei, Bertalan, Cesar, Eleonore and Ivan.

The first two placed winners will compete at our local area contest on 18th April, then on to Division and District competition.  Whoever wins the International speech contest can go on … and on … and on, possibly as far as flight-paid participation in Las Vegas.

Good Luck.

The photos are much better now, with real people, not stock photo people 🙂
