Meeting Summary 20th May 2015

Maxim

“I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.”

Martha Graham, as posted on Manner of Speaking.

Participation

What is it with Wednesdays?  Our meeting has competed against the Blockupy protests in Frankfurt, against Barcelona & Bayern playing football, and now it’s a 5 day train strike.

But in spite of it being difficult to reach the venue, our Toastmaster of the Evening Christoph filled all the rolls and gave us a great meeting with 3 prepared speeches, 3 speech evaluations, & 5 impromptu Table Topics.

Our speakers were Asli, Andrei, and Isabelle, all speaking from the 10-project basic manual. Evaluations both encourage speakers in their achievements so far, and help identify ways to improve.  Our evaluators were Cezar, Mirja and Martin.

Impromptu speaking is either terror or terrific fun.  Our TT master was Cezar and Ben, Martin, brave guest Diana, and Bertalan spoke to answer “What do you love to do in life, and with who?”.

Organisation

The meeting was full of relaxed fun. Learning takes place best when you can stretch yourself but in comfort.   Meeting manager Christoph did well to rearrange the programme to account for the absences due to the transportation disruption and knit the meeting together well.

Every event is also an opportunity for improve.  The general evaluation was given by Ben.

Suggestions for the future include:

  • The TME may describe the agenda verbally, to ensure all rolls are filled
  • Assign a Competent Leadership roll evaluator
  • give all roll holders the chance to introduce their rolls, which is valuable impromptu presentation practice
  • Sergeant at Arms should source a box to collect evaluation feedbacks for each speaker
  • Shake hands

as if you are greeting the Queen
to hand over the stage
to take ownership of the stage
to create a relationship in just 1 second
